The Interview

I heard somewhere
God is hiring
"Help Wanted:
Inquire Within"

to work for
God is to
work for love
serving others

work for the food
that never spoils
not for the food
that cannot satisfy

the harvest indeed
is plentiful
but the workers
are scarce

I buried my
single talent
in shallow ground
of the familiar and safe

my master, you see
is hard to please
he expects a yield
where he hasn't plowed

when he discovered
my lack of initiative
his anger was fierce
my punishment swift

if there is
a lesson it must be:
retreat in fear
is out of character

for those on whom
God has lavished
his love and mercy
unsparingly

much has been given
much will be required
I saw the sign
and so I inquired.
