Final Flight

Last hug!

Torn from my arms,

you fly with the angels.

I see Heaven's gate opening-----

for you.

This poem is written in memory of my son, Gary, who died in 1983, at age 13, from cystic fibrosis. I wrote it in cinquain form, consisting of 22-syllables. The lines go, 2-4-6-8-2. I recently started studying this form and this is my first attempt. I thought I would try something new for Gary. To prove his mother is still learning, and will join him as soon as God calls me home. :thewave:

Thank you, Travis. He died in Nov. So the memories come flooding back. I still miss him so much. He was at the age when he was just getting interested in girls. I remember one of his insensitive school teachers who had planned a finals test in first aide at the same time as an afternoon school dance. He had to choose between the dance and class where he would get his first-aide badge. And, Boy, did he want that badge! Still, he decided on the dance where his friends were going, including a special girl. This was about a year before he died. I think he made the right choice! Although I know it hurt him to not get that badge. And there was no make up date for the missed class. As if that teacher was punishing the students for choosing the dance. What kind of a teacher does that! Funny the things that stick in your mind. I still feel the resentment I had toward her. Anyway, thanks, Travis for letting me talk about my son. :hearts:
