Dull, dull, dull forever the anvil must remain
The sword forged on its base, honed & bejeweled
Views the anvil with distrust;
No more…no more, sword’s edge will rust.
The hammer swing falls each time
Making the same point of contact
Seeing not what it flattens
But the arc of its forceful threat.
What objects has it made
And purpose of its use
Protector or aggressor
The anvil’s benign in its views.
So too faith like anvil remain
Battered by forces all around
Yet retain a serenity, despite
Despite the swish of a hammer’s sound.
