To fear is to love?

Post by Lenny » Tue Jun 16, 2009 8:38 am

Mystics say
Fear God, any god

As a child I still recall
Being told to fear.
Fear what I love or I’ll fall.
To trust and love what we fear..

Think! If we fear…

How can you love?
Trust?
Submit?
Let in the Dove?
Or know He’s just?

I ask…

Fear: Do you trust it?
Do you love it?
Do you submit to it?
Do you sleep with it?

Or do you cower,
Run from hate and fear,
Stare with suspicion every time you can hear
him, feeding his power.

Then why do they ingrain,
To fear is to love
In every child’s virgin brain?
Who sleeps with poison near?

I say…

I do not fear
My love,
Nor my Dove.
Let the smart hear

What twisted f**k
First said love is fear,
And fear is love?
Spewing this s**t and filling Children’s minds with muck.

Correct this notion,
To love is to revere,
To respect and hold dear.
But never to fear.

I do not fear
My God, though to Him I revere.

Stand in awe at all
that has been done in the name of grace.
He loved us before and after our fall.
Just think what has been done to save the human race.

Still I ask, why should I ever fear
all that I love and cherish?
I can not, nor will I ever fear.

And on the day I parish
I will not be cowering, but running with open arms.

Of wrath you need not fear
If you love one so and keep him dear
And well in your mind.
Even when the inevitable slip occurs we’ll be forgiven for that is humankind

So I refuse to accept
The twisted notion fear is love
And to love is to fear.
That I will always reject!!

Pride is the recognition of the fact that you are your own highest value and, like all of man’s values, it has to be earned.

I agree without hesitation. You cannot love that which you fear.

Do you love
The one who feeds
You, insures you are warm enough,
Works to provide your needs?
And when you are sad,
Do comforting words make you glad?

What about when you are bad?
When you say things cruel
Hurting, turning love mad,
Feeding anger like fuel?
Do you not feel some fear
Of punishment from one who holds you so dear?

God is my Father, provider
for which I love him truly.
If I do bad and bring out his anger,
As I love him, I have fear, for he is most holy.

just thought I would toss this in here to offer an answer to how love and fear can be together.
Oh, and please edit the profanity from your poem. It does not belong in this forum. Thanks

I can understand where you are coming from except I must disagree.I do not fear punishment because I have always thought that the reason we do what is right is not because we fear what is wrong, or because we fear the consequences of doing wrong. Rather we do what is good and right because we love Him with our whole being and wish to bring Him; that which is good, pleasure out of our love, not out of our fear.

i think fear is misinterpreted in modern translations, although there is a semblance of fear in the meaning i think it is more along the lines of reverance or an internal knowledge of the awesome power of god and a respect or "fear" of that power which was what "made" or created humans and has the power to unmake or destroy. without understanding and acceptance of "jesus" the bible is just a book of fairytales and rules......jesus opens it up and makes it a love story with many twists and turns.......that is how i see it anyway :2cents:

If the bible is the word of God why do we need modern translations

this subject is very dynamic very complex...
fear as well as love can and is the most powerful force
yet the weakest in certain cases
in one case it motivates
in another it makes one stagnate...
fear is not not bad no more evil than love is
its simply another indication of realization
