My Father's Nature

Post by gordy » Sat Nov 29, 2003 12:06 pm

As the days shimmering sunlight
Brushes softly 'cross my brow
The autumn evening enters
As a dusky whisper
Sighing sweetly, softly, saying simply
"Child, lay down now."

This days destined ordained ending
Slowly slips shadows up under my chin
As if the moon was sent
By God (or maybe my mom)
To give me a goodnite kiss
And tightly tuck me in

I have a peaceful drifting dozing feeling
As nature holds me, snugly-safe and sound
Faintly I hear a lone coyote's
Nightly howlallujah
A predators primative praise
Prayerfully rising Heaven bound

Realizing, as nature gloriously surrounds me
That no matter how maternal it may feel,
While it may be motherly
Both in name and nurture,
In truth, it's my Fathers nature
Mother nature does reveal

This poem is simply wonderful. It was effortless to be inside this poem, to visually see it and feel it as well. The coyote's call was very clever. Rae

Truly enjoyed reading... you set a wonderful mood... the twist/insight of the last verse is a wonderful conclusion.

jeanne
... and his words purge up and outward,
expelled and onward through desert dust swallowed,
sands he says that gorge on simple sensibilities.
And, now he spits fragments, grit, extended vowels and elongated syllables
over cracked lips. Their sounds fall
piling round his boots…
