Love?

Many years passed without its meaning.
Many evenings were spent alone.
Too many sunsets ignored, viewed without dreaming;
Too many sun risings, lost in the dull alone.
Laughter, yells, sighs all found in the wind,
Parties, holiday and private, celebrate in the falling rain.
Dust decorates gifts from when love begins;
One pillow rests where two can never be again.

Love? "Is this a thing of reality?"
I would wonder when younger.
And now, as I approach my finality,
The answer fades in my growing hunger.
I once knew the answer, knew its truth
When I saw the sunsets with my arms filled
And sunrises reflected on her body so smooth...

What I now know of that I once knew
Has taken on a darker, colder light,
Where the sun's movements I don't care to view,
And the evening's new moon fills my view.
Love pulls at me toward another path,
But it still is dragging my heart from the past,
And I can only sigh, and laugh,
Knowing my first, glorious love, was my last.
