Four Years...of indelible You
My mind has been wandering of late,
Perhaps because of the approaching date
Carrying a mirror to reflect back to me
Images and dreams behind a door of what is never to be.
Is it four years? Your shadow still remains
Shaking its head over the new pillow stains,
Draped over porcelain and glass on dusty shelves
Forms of dogs and dishes where your soul still dwells.
After one year, still numb, I still heard your voice;
Then, at two, I saw there would be no choice
But to hide your memories in boxes, store them away...
And then, at three, I swore to do it soon...some day.
The truth is tugging at me to sit in the chair...
To sit in the place we last shared this mortal air;
The boxes remain empty; my heart just as full...
For love is a stain indelible on the heart of an old fool...

I see now the connection between this one and the one you have titled "Two years." Both beautifully painted.
It always seems that emotions don't know how to stop, we have to train or restrain them.
A well-sculpted write of honest feelings, Tom.

This is such a beautiful write...
I can imagine the pain brought on by the absence of a loved one and how hard it must be to let things go because of all the memories.
I can feel through your words that time can heal but the scars always remain because we can never forget all that we have shared with a loved one.
To keep your heart full is keeping your love alive...and for me there is nothing foolish about that!
Your poem made me think of a conversation I had with my mother not long ago...
My sister lost her husband recently and I said to my mother that I wasn't sure that I could love anymore because I was afraid of the pain of the loss. She just simply replied, "what do you prefer? to have a love so great and to loose it one day or to never know love at all?...
It made me think...Love is what makes life so beautiful so it 's worth the risk...and if we ever loose our loved one we still get to keep all the beautiful memories.
I was most touched by your words...and I must say again, this is a very beautiful poem.
Money don't make me so broke can't break me.
