Vexed, hexed
and perplexed
you start to wonder
what's coming next
on the TV
on the phone
are we creatures
all made of stone?
they tell us
the weather's great
in a freezing rain
in full sneeze again I'm late
give me my
slice of the pie
you'll get yours
in the bittersweet by-and-by
look at the towers
see how they sway
things weren't supposed to
work out this way
all across this
gilded landscape
we're all prisoners
with no chance of escape
through a narrow opening
I sensed an opportunity
I abandoned all caution
and regained my curiosity
high atop the mountains
it echoes in the hills
summoning the seeker
with unparalleled thrills
it's not a miracle drug
no quick and easy cure
the summit of civilization
savage, simple, and pure
I plunged into her waters
so clean and inviting
sunshine every day
and the fish are always biting
I'll never look back
I'll never go back in mind
and wonder what comes next
for those time left behind.
