You were taken from me
wounds invisible and deep
where the curious can't see
the hours deprive me of sleep
doors come unhinged
winged ones flutter and fall
the unraveling begins
I'm inclined to crawl
where did the shadows run?
escape the unforgiving sun
wind whispers all I fear
no direction on a trail of tears
waking up to the sting
buzzing hive of busy-ness
in the air desperation clings
yielding to the emptiness
days of futility ticking past
our small world not meant to last
I'll see you in another state
another sock without a mate
you're fixed like a star
in a late August sky
and there you are
you're everything in my eyes.
The Hours
