The poet

The poet

I so love to write poetry
I love its meter and its verse
I love its rhyme and rhythm
Its similarities - yet so diverse
I love to read good poetry
And the minds of those who write it
Their inner muse gives no excuse
It’s just in them – they can’t fight it
Poetry touches people
In a place they love to feel
It can heal, it can deal
It can hurt and divert
It has such an emotional appeal

Yes, I love the mindful poet
Yes, I love that mighty pen
Once I read what (s)he has written
I want to read it once again
A world without the poet
Without that inner muse
Is a world bereft of soulfulness
A thing too dear to lose
So stand up for the poet
Let his pen write into you
A gift of word to treasure
Be it joy or be it blues.
