I who die before you
Scratch me from your list
Shed no tear, feel no fear
Shake not your worried fist
For even as I lay here
My body rots and my soul is mist

You must carry on

Oh long be the life you travel
Be it not a burden nor a fret
Yet I who die before you
Know it’s time to pay my Earthly debt
Be gone, you, who frowns on me
You still have time, so don’t forget

You must carry on

Oh eyes of mine close slowly
Lest the darkness steal my sight
For I who die before you
Will fear the coming night
But you with eyes of sunshine
Must do what’s just and right

You must carry on.

In the stillness of my death bed
As my final breath has left the room
I who died before you
Have journeyed off to meet my doom
But you must go and live your life
Till the day your death will loom

Enjoyed this...

Though "enjoy" seems an odd response to a poem describing death.

But it also describes life.

The poem brings feeling of the reality that life isn't easy. There's weight to carry, sometimes really heavy weight.

I also feel a sense of determination and purpose.

Maybe "enjoy" isn't such an odd response.

The expression above impressed me most. Well, this was posted about three and half years ago today and I don't remember what I was doing then. Now I see the point that some tell me things change though they don't seem to but they do. Yes, I must carry on.
