The Usual Smell Makes Everything Okay

Post by blackophelia » Mon Dec 17, 2012 9:50 pm

I will not say I am worthy of anything changing in poetry. I just love feeling. I love not feeling like the mad woman all the time. I want to me all the time and I can't being bipolar. So here is a rough draft of these feelings and of love.

The usual smell makes everything okay

A man who can follow your mind knows himself.

the answer I want from him is falling
to my hands, rich smooth affection.

I kneel to my Earl Grey tea and
feel my heart into the sunset;
oh how I wish I knew myself like he does.

I never loved a smile like this before.
When he stares at me, I never shy away.
The phases of the moon will not stop
him.

Breathe it slow, the admiration of
someone that is not a story.

The usual smell makes everything okay
I am no longer the mad house.

Thank you LadySaturn, I used to be the poetrypages about six years ago under the name, Morgaine. After three kiddos, I feel like I can write again.

sense of smell triggers not only memories but feelings of security.
Coffee percolating and bacon frying start the day. Enabling us to face the world with confidence.

I read this yesterday and it haunted me ... so today I returned to it to comment.

The sense of smell is a powerful sense for me. So many memories are linked to scents. For instance, the smell of Earl Gray takes me to my mother in her final years, seeing her sitting with a cup of tea. The smell of Aramis cologne takes me instantly and vividly back to high school -- the boy whose locker was next to mine always wore Aramis. The sweet scent of baby powder zooms me back to being a young mother inhaling the fragrance of my babies. And the perfume from petunias transports me to my grandmother's garden on my grandparents' farm in Texas.

It's powerful.
never loved a smile like this before.
When he stares at me, I never shy away.
-- this is my favorite line ... it reminds me of how I feel about my sweet husband. His smile completely melts my heart, still.
-- Leysa --
