I'm Closer Now To Heaven

Post by DarleneG » Wed Nov 28, 2012 5:22 am

I'm closer now to Heaven
Than I've ever been before.
And sometimes I hear death's angel
Knocking at my door.

To once again see
Family membes who have crossed,
My son, my brother, my parents,
And aunts and uncles that I've lost.

This wold be a joy,
And all of Heaven would hear me shout.
There would be hugs and kisses,
Dancing and laughter all about.

But, still I want to live
Awhile longer on this earth.
So my fingers grip life's bars,
And my toes still touch earth's dirt!

I'll be 59 next March,..and I must confess, that I haven't fully confronted my own mortality just yet. Only in glimpses now, and then. I believe we go on to another existence where everything you describe so well in your poem is possible. I just haven't worked out the details yet. :hello:

By the way,.... Jesus will always be my savior and king. The teachings I was taught as a child about him, have gone through many reinterpretations in my own mind through the years,....to the point that I see him, and his message to be in almost complete contradiction to the way most avowed Christians
see him today,...and personally I find much greater comfort in believing in my version,..than I ever did believing in theirs. Hey,...but to each their own.
God's gotta see all this as minor details anayway. Regardless, what color you fill in between the lines,...the picture is the same.

:hello: bags, Oh to be 59 again. I'm 75! And don't worry about sorting out the details, God will do that for us! I'm glad you liked the poem. It does, however, make us think about our own mortality, as you said.
But let life :whip: and hopefully we can survive it's blows, despite it's sting!

The details are not ours to work out. Without the inherent mystery of life it would be a mundane existence indeed.

Once it's realized that life's increments have become fewer like a diminishing bank account and that the forward glance is pithy compared to it's past panorama there is still that yearning in between, as someone once wrote to

Forge me a crown
of inmost feeling!
It's bliss surrender
to the heart of being.

Beautiful message in elegant form. The whole poem is wonderful. I especially like how it all leads up to the last verse. A special poem, Darlene! --David

:hello: David, So good to hear from you. I was worried since it's been awhile. I'm glad you liked the poem, I guess many others can relate to similar situations. :thewave:

 I think Jesus spoke in parables for a reason. Maybe so man would contemplate them and in doing so enrich his soul. After all words are just words - unless we seek the true meaning behind them, they will only be ink placed upon paper.
Some people live their whole lives with people that they think they are the closest to, but really are the furthest away from.

Surely I did not pick up this write
After reading your name friend
I was moved by the title only
And so I just clicked hopefully

But, your photo gave me peace
And your words a masterpiece
I salute your golden ideas
Your views are remarkable

Your talent makes me wonder
As your ideas are indeed stars
Very valuable and I only pray
That you must linger longer.

Good morning, Roy. Thank you for reading one of my poems. When I wrote this one, I had just finished a week in the hospital after a heart problem. But today, I am doing better and enjoying the life that God has extended for me. Every day is precious.

I have also posted in the General Poetry forum in case you ever check that area out. Also, you might enjoy reading what other poets have posted in these forums and get more involved with us by responding to their poems. We have a great group of people here, and we would like to include you in our forums and discussions. So please, don't be a stranger. Get involved in the forums and join us.

May day by day your health improve. Blessings and peace to you, Darlene :computer:
