I shall never forget
his diminutive stature
and pock-marked face
his grasp of the Queens English
offset by Farsi inflection
and his brown leather
driving gloves patterned
with a myriad of
ventilation pinpricks
mostly I will not forget
his expressionless eyes
ha! unwitting pawn
take this innocuous
parcel bomb
have it sent to the
address of my enemy
here are coins
do as I bid you fool
and deliver this doom
with haste!
‘sure’ I said ‘we can carry
your (exploding) birthday present
(bomb)
to your friend (foe)
in Scotland’
I absorbed the
plausibility of his lies
like a sponge in a
bowl of rancid milk
for once he was gone
something intangible
remained
and in ignorance
I carried the
intangible to a
delivery vehicle and
consigned it to his foe
a perceived flash of fierce
hatred spews forth a
tsunami of vicious
shrapnel as the
parcel bomb
explodes
tearing fragile skin
and flesh asunder
with hindsight
I wish his eyes
had betrayed a hint
of his evil intent
