Artists
She paints with oils
and water too
on taut canvas
with flat and stroke brushes
guided by her mind's eye.
He paints with his thoughts
and dreams too
with nimble keystrokes
on a flat screen
guided by his heart's eye.
She and he are artists,
they both see things,
not as they are,
but as they should be
or could be, by and by.

Re: Artists
No truer words spoken, OP. The artist definitely views the world from a should be/could be stance, though sometimes presenting stark reality in all it's brutal horror presents the viewer with more to ponder on.
An' it harm none, do what ye will. Blessed Be.

Re: Artists
Right on, corpulent one. "Elmer Gantry" by Sinclair Lewis and "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair serve as specifically altruistic examples of your point. But arguably the best poetic example is "The Lie" by Sir Walter Raleigh.
