Digging the Bones

Digging the Bones Bones - I don't know why they were important. They sat there in profusion. Long bones, short bones, ribs and vertebrae - the skulls drew my attention. They were alarmingly human, yet not quite so - I couldn't immediately identify what about them bothered me. My eyes became more acc...

Angel

Angel I had gone for my usual evening walk. The full Passover moon made it unnecessary to carry a lantern against the dark. She was sitting at the side of the road. Her small body wracked with sobs. At first I couldn't discern the reason for her deep grief - then I put my hand on her shoulder. What ...

The Diner at the Edge of Never

The Diner at the Edge of Never Damn Toyota! I vented my anger once again as my feet splashed in the great puddles. Maybe I should have stayed in the car - but I hadn't seen another in over an hour. But, then, I would still have been dry. I cursed myself for being impatient. The rain continued to com...

The New Kid

The New Kid My life changed that day. Nothing could ever be the same again. Mom and Dad both killed in the car crash, Aunt Millie and Uncle Dan taking over, moving into the house. They had always hated Mom. Called her a "Witch", and despised me, as well. They hadn't even called on my 12th birthday. ...

Vagabond

Vagabond part 1: Autumn Sunlight glistens off cornstalks moist with early morning dew. A spider's web shines like a lace curtain festooned with pearls. The road stretches invitingly before me, and I savor the cool autumn air. As I walk I brush the last of the pine needles from my clothing - a conseq...

The Inner Struggle

Remarkable germ of a story here. Good action, but rather emotionless in the third person. Try rewriting it in first person and putting some emotion into it. First paragraph: How about "Since before she could talk, the lessons of battle were recited to her and became the lessons of life." [img]images...

how the sun shined on my temple

Beautiful story. Hard to read in all caps. Do you have a version in lower case? Also would be easier to read if double spaced at paragraph breaks. Easier on these old eyes *grin*

**"Daddy"** Poem of the Week: January 23, 2005

Winner: Poem of the Week: January 23, 2005 http://www.heinzs.poetrypages.com/images/at261.gif "Daddy" In the darkness I sit, sobbing uncontrollably, inconsolably. My back against the bed, my knees tight against my chest. I rock with each sob, punctuating the dreadful pain. I see his naked form, flo...

Flight 253 (A story poem)

Flight 253 (a story poem) In the darkness of the night, city lights, like myriad stars in some earth-bound constellation, mark the passage of the airbus. At 30,000 feet, in flight, the wings warp and shake - their shuddering felt in the seat as dense clouds finally obscure the window's view. The eng...

Who runs this place? A little about me.

Thank you so much for updating the Poetry Pages. This is the first place I ever posted, and it feels like a "family" to me. I have made many wonderful friends here, and have received immeasurable support both personally and for my poetry. I am home when I am here.
